We do not collect data

ShepTone has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. Your audio, your transcripts and your settings stay on your computer. There is no mechanism in the app that sends them anywhere.

Audio and text

Recognition runs on-device with whisper.cpp and Metal. The model ships inside the app, so nothing is downloaded and nothing is uploaded. Transcripts are saved as files in ~/Documents/ShepTone Transcripts/, under your control.

Telemetry and crash reports

None. We receive no usage statistics and no automatic crash reports.

Permissions

Microphone for your voice; Accessibility to recognise the key combinations and insert text into the active field; Screen & System Audio Recording to capture the other side of a call; access to your Documents folder to save transcripts. Each permission is used only for the purpose described here.

Licence key

The key is verified offline. The app does not contact us to check your licence.

Purchase

When you buy, your email address is used to send the receipt and the licence key, and to answer support requests. It is not used for anything else and is not shared. Payment is handled by our payment provider; we never see your card details.

Third-party AI tools

The prompt buttons copy a prompt and your transcript to the clipboard. If you then paste that into ChatGPT, Claude or another service, the data goes to that service under its own privacy policy. That step is always yours, never automatic.
